Hello...everyone. Whenever I find myself blogging I constantly feel the need for an introduction because it has been so long since the last post. I also have tried not to look at blogs as much because they make me sad, wishing I had a baby... but after reading Brooklyn's blog today I thought I will blog for me. I constantly see funny things throughout the day and think to myself, I would love to share that with people. Or want to show off a fancy meal I made, a fun project I did, or show off my cute husband and dog. Silly, perhaps, but as many have said, it is a great way to remember what I have done and for one who remembers nothing this will be great.

Here it is... the photos are not the greatest, James has been too busy to help me take some good ones so I decided I would try, but you get the idea. It is very small but we LOVE it! It is amazing what nice carpet and being able to hang pictures will do for you. So far I really like Henderson. It is a nice area and there are a lot of good people. Just going to the store people are nice and friendly. Perhaps that is only because I have Sobi in my hands.

Another huge plus is that we have every store I would need to go to in a 5-10 mile radius. I use to have to drive 30 minutes from the Avenues to get anywhere. Not any more!

Our ward is awesome, same with the stake. We had stake conference on Sunday and it was wonderful. Such a wonderful spirit. I look forward to meeting all the wonderful saints down here. There are a lot.

Call me silly but I didn't think to much about the heat when I thought of us moving to Vegas. Can you say HOT!!! I went on a bike ride the other day, we left at 6:30 to try and beat the heat, didn't work when we arrived to the place we were going to ride at 7:00 AM... it was 96 degrees. That is madness. I know I complain now but come October, November...DECEMBER. You are all going to be wishing you were here with my beside our pool sipping on a dc with lemon or are you a lime? Although I love the snow. Just trying to make you jealous. Working?

I have had a nice two weeks off. Here is a day for me in my new place. I try to wake up with James at 6 or 7 am and make James breakfast, consisting of a box of cereal, milk, bowl and spoon...complicating I know, and a lunch for the day. See you at 6-7 tonight. Then Sobi and I play for a little bit and watch the Today Show. Good show but too many commercials. Sometimes go on a walk around the complex but it is hard to do with the heat. I joined 24 hour fitness which is 1 minute away from my house. I go to the 9 o'clock class which ranges from weight lifting to Zumba cycling or yoga. They are great classes! It is nice to be able to work out again. Let me quickly give a shout out to Zumba. If you haven't done it I think you should. If you can do as my instructor suggested and put your ego in the back seat then you will love it. I know I looked like a total fool but there were several times I just wanted to start freaking out to the good beats she had playing. So after the work out I shower and get ready for the day. Then run errands with Sobi, if he can come. We got kicked out of Target our first day here...I had a bad taste in my mouth but because I love Target as much as I do, I suppose I will go back. Then we come home and watch some tv or read our puppy training book or eat, pray, love. I am stuck in the India portion and can't seem to get out of it. I love her writing and wish I had her talent. Maybe in another life! Then we take a nap which are truly a glorious thing. Sobi and I take them together, well not in the same place because he likes to bite my flesh more then sleep but at the same time. We then find things to do around the house and start making dinner. I love cooking. It has been so nice to be able to make James dinners. I will be the first to say I did not do this at home. Usually because we were never there. Also because we didn't have AC and the kitchen was as hot as it is down here. I was wanting to keep a list of the meals I have made so all of you can see them too...

So there you have it. As for the rest of this week, my mom and hopefully my sister, Rach, are coming down. We are going to have a total blast. I am going to make them go to Zumba, the Hoover Dam, maybe see a show, the outlets, and eat lots of treats... Anyone have any other suggestions? Let me know.

VIVA LAS VEGAS

Viva Las Vegas!!! So tonight is our last night in Salt Lake City... a bittersweet feeling. I have absolutely loved living in the avenues. I would recommend this place to everyone. It is so diverse and so many great homes and fun local restaurants such as Sawadee, Cucina, Wine Grape (we never actually went there but I hear it is great). It is also so close to down town without the "I hate the city" feeling you might get. I continue to tell James I would love to move back here after our law school adventure. That was a long tangent, we are moving to Vegas because James is attending UNLV's Law School. I am so excited for him. As for me I think I will be nannying for a family but would love to try and get a teaching job down there. I am going to miss my job as much as anything. Because of the move I am wanting to be better about blogging and making my life public to the world... no not really just to family and friends and blog stalkers of course. Please join us on our journey to Sin City!!!

Helen Ridges Okelberry 1910 ~ 2009

Helen Ridges Okelberry passed away peacefully on Pioneer Day, July 24, 2009 in Las Cruces, NM where she had been residing with her daughter, Jean Hill. She was born May 30, 1910 to Alfred Joseph Ridges and Edna Hyde Ridges. She was the great-granddaughter of Pres. John Taylor and Orson Hyde. She married Alfred Moyle Okelberry on September 2, 1932 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was devoted to this gentle, kind-hearted, brilliant surgeon. While he was away caring for others, she occupied herself with quilt-making and beautiful needlework projects. Her hand knit Christmas stockings are treasured by each child and grandchild. Helen had a spirit of loving kindness and was known for her ready smile, pleasant disposition and willingness to serve others. She loved gathering her family together and was famous for her tart lemon pies and homemade ice cream. She had a wide range of interests-from basketball to ballet, football to fugues, swimming to symphony. She was the first to reach the 500-mile goal at the Deseret Gym Pool and was often seen bicycling on her three-wheeler along the Avenues. In her earlier years she rode in the Silver Spurs horseback riding club. She loved tending her beautiful rose gardens which are still blooming. She lived a happy, contented life. Helen was a member of the DUP, Ladies Literary Club, and officer in the County and State Medical Auxiliary groups, a 24+ year volunteer at Primary Children's Medical Center and a expert bridge player. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of callings. Along with her husband, she served a mission at the visitor center in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1972-73. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and son, Carl. She is survived by her daughters, Joan Clissold and Jean Hill (R. Dean), her daughter-in-law, Doreen Maxfield, 12 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 17th at 12 noon at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple. Family and friends may call from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. We are grateful to our wonderful mother who has left us with a legacy of testimony, service and love.

So I don't know if you have heard about a little thing called the Food Co-op but it is freakin' awesome! I know this is totally geeky but I took of picture of all the food I got for $19, yes, you read right, $19. Now, I am not much of a bargainer but that is a whole lot of food. You must check this thing out. There website is foodco-op.net. You do have to volunteer 2 hours a month but it can be for anything (other than family). Think about church callings!!! You pick up the food at a location near to you...they have a whole bunch of locations. Oh, and you pick it up the last Saturday of the month. Hope someone gets some use out of this information. One more thing, the produce and meat is super good. Not yucky meat! Really!

We had so much fun in Lake Powell with the Long and Linton Family! We arrived late Monday night and slept under the stars (in the parking lot). Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday was spent water skiing, tubbing, and eating! Kay is one of the best cooks around which only added to the greatness of the trip. Stuart, James, and Greg all did such a great job skiing! Melissa has got some mad skills too. Thanks for the wonderful trip!

James 25th Birthday was this Friday...HAPPY HAPPY BABY! After a year of planning, really, I have been wanting to do this for a year now. I threw James a LOST SURPRISE PARTY. He loves this show. I often question his faithfulness to me because he loves this show so much...that was a joke! I sent out the invite to your left. I tried to pull out all the stops on this one. He knew about the surprise about an hour before...I was a little suspicious. He walked in the door and did a pose with his hands in the air almost saying...I knew about this suckers! What a punk...he was cute about it all though. I thought he might run around the to the front door and while we are all faced the other direction, he might ask what we all are doing. Or I thought he might walk in, in his speedo...he didn't but man that would have been a great surprise for all of us!

so this morning i woke up to one of the most hilarious text messages. it is no surprise that it came from my cousin matt (one of the best comedians alive). as a background, matt plows snow in the winter and landscapes in the summer. so when it snows he makes money to support his family. with that said, this is what i woke up to.

Aren't I a lucky wife to have such a thoughtful and sweet husband! I this day (actually it was yesterday) am grateful for my husband...he just beat me to it. He is such a great example to me. He is so loyal to his friends and family. He knows so much about the gospel and is patient with me as I ask him so many questions about the gospel. He also is freakin SEXY. I love his body and his cute hair. As I am writing this I am feeling as though this is exactly what simply so blessed makes fun of. Oh well! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

just chillin in california. whit and i flew out to see sadie, jt, and berit on tuesday night. we are here for the fabulous holiday of thanksgiving. it is the second time we have come to their home for thanksgiving and it is always so much fun. we mostly just eat and eat and sleep and watch movies and sleep and eat. doesn't get much better.

this thanksgiving i am thankful for a few things.
first. my wife whit. she is the best. we have so much fun together and i am grateful each day to spend time with her. we are always getting to do great things together and have incredible opportunities. thanks whit, i love you!

second, america the great and beautiful. if you know me at all i am super patriotic and love the country we get to live in. i hope we never take it for granted.

third, friends. we have some of the best in the world. even if they are starting to scatter around the globe, we are lucky to have them in our lives. our family also has a huge influence in our lives. i talk to my family everyday and i love it. we are all so close.

hope you all have a great thanksgiving and can keep the spirit of gratitude in your hearts always.

I thought I would re-introduce myself...it has been way too long since I have written on this blog. I hope I do it right. So as James said in our bio I am teaching junior high in west valley and loving it. It is so much fun! I often think to myself how lucky I am to Love my Job! There are days when I question myself but overall I am very glad I did it. My students are awesome! I never thought I would want to teach junior high but now that I am here I love it. They have so much energy and are exceptional talkers but their thinking is awesome. I also love it because they believe just about everything I tell them. Those of you that know me well know how much sarcasm I use. They just don't get it. Hopefully with time it will happen, but it has already been a term so maybe not.

Oh my goodness...we went to Italy! It was amazing. We went during Fall Break to visit our dear friends the Hortons. Drew is getting his Masters over there so we thought we better go while we have someone to stay with and the best tour guides. I was so happy to see all the art I have been studying for YEARS. My favorite of all the art work was Michaelangelo's David. We walked around the corner and BOOM there he was. He is so sexy! But even sexier then him is Michaelangelo. Last year when I was studying his art I told James how big of a crush I had on him. I don't think it bothered him that much...Ok, but the sexiest of all of them is my husband...James Edward Clissold. The sweet guy went along with the trip even though we could have gotten him new eyes for the same price. Isn't he amazing! Thanks Babe. We will post pictures soon. I am so excited I married such a great photographer because now we get to put all his work in our house.

I love the fall! It is so freakin awesome. Today I was outside cutting down a tree, I do it in my free time. It was so nice and so many people were out walking. I love that it is so warm. I feel like we are getting the fall I was afraid we were going to miss. I love the pumpkins on peoples doorsteps, the vibrant colors of leaves, and the chill in the air.

a great photographer story

Just heard this story and couldn't help but laugh and post it.

outside a local mall!
Got my new 50D, made a short list of subjects/topics to shoot, and sat in my car about 100ft from one of the exits to a large mall. Shot a few people coming/going into the mall from that distance through my windshield. Was there for 5-8 min. I did notice a 35-40ish woman park close behind me, go into the mall, come out 3 min later, and she made me suspicious. So I turned the car around and drove away...and noticed her on her phone looking at me.

2 uniformed men came, wife answered the door, and I went to the back yard to explain what I had been doing. They had been told I was taking pics of kids...well, there were none. Just adults going in and out. Just looking for some people shots, in a public parking lot, to test the 18-200 lens...yeah, I know , windshield is crummy. After that I drove to a park pond and shot ducks for an hour.

They were quite polite, not accusing, but unnerved me for sure. Agreed that it was a public place, did not ask to see my pics, and seemed to believe me. Told them about my photo work generally, ie. mostly travel, need faces sometimes, etc. After about 10 min they'd heard enough and left, hopefully no harm done. Asked if my birthdate was correct...I said, oh you got that from my licence plate, and the quieter one said "we know everything about you". don't know what that meant, don't really believe it...since they didn't even ask for web site or anything like that.

Scary stuff out there. Sure are some crazy people around !

Some people need to simmer down and not instantly call the police on some dude that is just stoked over a new camera. HaHa

the other day i, james, was driving to work and i was instantly brought back to a childhood story. the little engine that could. if you dont remember it it is about a small train that could. look up, check it out, and purchase. then read it. it is a great one. well, i was reminded of it because i was driving the old cj7 up parleys canyon and i just kept saying to myself "i think i can, i think i can" over and over. and guess what?. . . . we made it. it took me an hour to get to work in park city, but it was worth it. hope you all have a great day.

so i know that most of you out there that have read our blog, or continue to read our blog, have been in college recently. i just want to vent for one second about how lame it is that they think, whoever "they" are, that they can charge what they do for textbooks. i am taking a few classes this semester that require some spendy books. what is spendy you ask? maybe you think $100? maybe even $150! now that would be expensive. well, my two text books pushed $400 combined! one was $195 and the other was $182. Can you believe that? I couldn't, but thanks to AMEX i was able to just swipe away and walk out of the bookstore laughing. i have taken up a new motto, "laugh at what you can't change" there is no reason for me to get upset about it, i can't change the price. so i am just going to be appalled and continue to think that it is ridiculous and that i got bamboozled!

ok ok, so here is the deal-ee-o. we have been a little busy, WAIT! I know, everyone is busy, right? So we are going to put aside that excuse and get back to the blogging world.

what is new? you just might ask.

whit is the best jr. high art teacher in the world, maybe universe! she works at kennedy jr. high in the granite school district and loves it. she is also the soccer coach, whos team has a winning record right now, and in charge of the yearbook. so maybe you can realize why we said that we are a little bit busy.

james is back in school and will graduate next year in graphic design. his classes are slamming on the work and he is staying up late. he is also getting a biz minor so he is back in the books and numbers. work is going well. (( dream photo design )) has a new website that you can check out by clicking the name. we are shooting about once a week right now or more and the biz is picking up. if you need some photos just drop us a line. also look for a new product to hit the shelves soon. an lds greeting card company is about to debut. ok, so we have been getting a lot of heat lately about the lack of posts on our blog. we are sorry. we just slack a bit with no internet at home. hope you can forgive us.

tomorrow, the 4th of august, is our anniversary! we spent the last couple of days up at the cabin just relaxing and enjoying time away from the world. there are no phones up there and no cell service. it is so great to just be away. we hot tubbed, napped, bbq'd salmon, read books, watched a movie, and just enjoyed the fresh canyon air.

Final Projects and New Member of the Family

So as all of you know we have been busy the past few weeks with final projects at the university of utah. Whit is graduating on May 2nd and James is finishing up a year in the graphic design program. Here are two of our final projects. . .

This is Whit's awesome small metals project. Whit made 3 birds out of copper plates and a cool technique with colored powders that then burn in a hot oven. You will have to ask her the name of it and all the details. It is super cool though! The birds don't have names yet, but I am sure they will soon.

Meet Joesaphine! She is the newest member of our family. She is a hand-made stuffed doll by James. Joesaphine has a great personality and is very lady-like (as you can see in the photo how she is crossing her legs). Joesaphine is so soft and cudly. We hope you like her as much as we do!

Farewell dear friend

Yesterday we lost a good friend. We sold our trusty Hyundai Elantra.
We almost had her a full year so it was time to let her go. She was a
great ride and we would recommend a Hyundai to anyone. It is now time
to find a replacement so if you know of anyone selling let us know.

-NOTHING! isnt it great to not do anything!

Today we checked to see what my skin looks like under the bandage. It had been a full week since they covered it up. Here is the photo. The incision is somewhere between 5 and 6 inches long. Hope you like it, it is going to make a gnarly scar!

I know Valentines has come and gone. I just wanted to post this one picture of the flowers that I gave Whit and say how much I love her. We had a great Valentines! We went to one of our favorite restaurants and then to a movie. We saw "Definitely Maybe" and it was really good. I thought it was pretty funny. So . . . Thanks Whit for the great Valentines and for being you! Love you!

Rock Climbing

Angels Landing

So the hike to Angels Landing turned out to be a lot sketchier then we
had expected. The snow was in abundance along with the ice. As you can
see from this photo of Whit, the chains were our saving grace. If you
have never done this hike, one mess up either direction and you are
off a cliff.

ok, so i posted this photo and i am glad that people are interested in knowing what it is exactly and what it says. it is drift wood in lake powell and it says "dream" in ukrainian. there is something that facinates me about the word dream. it is powerful and stunning. it is something that noone can take away from you. i have my dreams and they are mine. everyone has them and they are all so different. we should never stop dreaming. "you lose your dreams and you lose your mind"

So. . . let us just say that we are a little bit addicted to 24 right now. I had never seen an episode until a week ago and Whit has only seen a few. Stu and Melissa started watching them over the break and one night we watched a few episodes with them. After these 3 episodes we were hooked and knew that we had to start from day one. We were lucky enough to find a friend that has the first 5 seasons on dvd. We borrowed season one and within 5 days were done. We watched 14 episodes on Saturday to finish off our Christmas break before we had to get back to school. Our goal is to only watch one a night, but so far we are on an average of 3! Once you watch one you have to watch another. It is fun to have an ongoing show to watch together. If you have not seen 24 at all, pick it up and check it out. You won't be dissapointed, we promise!

One of the best restaurants in Utah!

Ok, so that is a pretty bold statement, but it is the truth! The name is Sawadee. It is a thai restaurant that is located in Salt Lake City. It is on south temple and in between 800 and 900 east. If you are looking for someplace new to check out go there. Whit and I recommend two things. The pad thai is what I get everytime and Whit loves the crab sawadee appetizers. Wow they are delicious! Just writing this is making me hungry and I will be surprised if we make it through the weekend without going to Sawadee. One last thing that I am sure you all want to know, how much is it? It is not too expensive. You are looking at about 7-10 bucks a plate. Which, for a nice sit down restaurant, is not too bad. We usually share something, cause the portions are quite large, and get an appetizer and our bill is 14 dollars. Let us know if you go and check it out. Enjoy!

What is his name? James Edward Clissold, Jamers, Jim (only Sadie can call him that)
How long have you been together? Married 1 year 5 months
How long did you date? 1.5 years (plus engagement)
How old is he? 23
Who eats more? I eat more often but he eats more in one sitting.
Who said I love you first? He said "I think I'm falling in love with you" and then a few months after that he said it.
Who sings better? James!!! He has an incredible voice. I am glad our children have some hope with musical abilities.
Who is smarter? James. He is what I like to call a mavin.
Whose temper is worse? Neither. Occasionally James gets a little road rage but nothing serious.
Who does the laundry? Me but he is always good to help when I need it.
Who does the dishes? I would say mostly me... I wonder what he would say.
Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Looking at the bed I do.
Who pays the bills? James. He is great about doing that.
Who mows the lawn? no comment.
Who cooks dinner? We both do but James is the better chef.
Who drives when you are together? James. I should drive more though because I don't have a car and my family thinks I am a horrible driver.
Who is more stubborn? We are both really laid back so I don't know.
Who is the first to admit when they're wrong? James is way good about that. I am too...I think.
Whose parents do you see the most? Mine :) but we try to be fair.
Who kissed who first? James kissed me.
Who asked who out? I gave him my number so I am going to take credit for that.
Who proposed? James
Who is more sensitive? James was more sensitive when we were dating but now that we are married I am. Although I don't cry much.
Who has more friends? I think we are pretty equal on that one. He has a lot though... maybe it is him.
Who has more siblings? I do! He has 3 siblings and I have 6... that is counting step and half but I don't like using those terms.
Who wears the pants in the family? Both! I wear the right leg, he wears the left.
